"Dear Friends:
How deeply honored I am to be your new member of the Virginia House of Delegates from the 47th District! I follow in the large footprints of former delegate Jim Almand, whose service set a high standard of excellence I will strive to emulate. The campaign was a long and difficult one, but I was blessed to have the backing of the most wonderful people, newcomers and veterans, who believed in me, who supported me in so many ways and who have afforded me the opportunity once again to serve the best community in America.
The list of those who worked so very hard for my election is long and I thank every one with the deepest gratitude for making this victory complete. Please forgive me for singling out just a few of so many (and forgive me for leaving out people who I may have temporarily forgotten).
- I start with my wife Sharon Davis, my two sons Matt and Alex, and Jim Almand-whose retirement gave me the opportunity to serve once more.
- Following are my perfect campaign manager Susan Prokop, my well-organized treasurer Marybeth Tschetter, my scheduler Ann Unitas; my materials maven Paddy McLaughlin, my sidekicks and precinct walkers-Jim Turpin (the sign man) Tom Hasman, Ann Ross, Chris Knauer, David Hedges, and Steve Rentner;
- My mentors Mary Margaret Whipple and Bob Brink,
- The "kitchen crew"-Peg Lorenz, Jean Crawford, and Alice Biby;
- My webmaster Mark Buchholz;
- Carrie Johnson who kept me plied with precinct lists and the numbers for our mailings;
- Lucy Denney, my four time campaign manager, who has always been there for me, always; the headquarters team who put up with so much mail;
- Peg Hogan, and Tom Whipple-who knows more about our campaigns than anybody;
- Adam Parkhomenko-who hauled the freight and was willing to do anything asked;
- Elise Annunziata and the Young Democrats who fanned out across the county and brought spirit to everybody's campaign;
- Peter Owen, Alfonso Lopez, Jim and Margie Mayer, Jesse Rosenthal, Michael Long, and Bob James for their early and constant support;
- Karen Darner for her counsel, kind thoughts, and moral support;
- Joe Blackwell and the Barton's who hosted "meet and greets;"
- The Joint Campaign leadership: Barbara Favola, Andres Tobar for his graciousness and dedication; Warren Nelson; Louise Fishbein and her phoners;
- Dan Steen, who counseled and advised me and took the fight to the Republicans;
- Those who stood at the polls, like John Skehan, Linda Hasman, Maxine Hillary, Tom Fairchild, and Alex Griffith, demonstrating a comforting presence;
- All those people throughout the district who allowed us to put signs in their yards;
- All the elected officials who were constant supporters and readily lent their names and time, particularly the ticket-mates who gave collective strength to the entire effort;
- Pat Carroll, for constantly checking in with me;
- My friend Alex Griffin who came from Alexandria to help me;
- Eric Sildon who explained the sign rules to my opponent at Westover, at length, and who was a sight for sore eyes at the end of day at Dominion Hills, where the people just streamed in for us;
- The voters of Ballston precinct who set the tone for the day starting at 6 AM, with a Democratic rush;
- Sue Rafferty, Ruth and Herschel Kanter, and Amy Appelbaum faithful campaign team members and advisers;
- The many groups that endorsed me Arlington's teachers, firefighters and paramedics, conservationists, housing advocates, Virginia Partisans, the Humane Society, pro-choice groups, and so many more;
- And last, but not least, the voters of my two neighborhoods-Ashton Heights and Lyon Park, who gave me more than 70 percent of their vote.
I know there are many more who deserve my thanks and as the names come to me, I will add them to this list. And again-THANKS!!!"
